Yumna Zaidi, born on July 30, 1989, is a renowned Pakistani actress known for her versatile roles in Urdu television dramas. Over the years, she has garnered significant acclaim and numerous awards, including five Lux Style Awards and a Hum Award from eight nominations. Her career spans various genres, from social dramas to romantic series, showcasing her broad acting range.

    Early Life and Career Beginnings

    Humble Beginnings

Yumna Zaidi was born in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. She began her acting career with a supporting role in ARY Digital’s 2012 domestic drama Thakan. Her performance in this series marked the beginning of her journey in the entertainment industry. Following this, she secured a leading role in the melodrama Khushi Ek Roag.

    Rise to Prominence

Zaidi’s career took a significant turn with her role in Urdu 1’s Teri Raah Main Rul Gai, where she starred opposite Samiya Mumtaz and Sami Khan as Maryam. Her performances in Geo TV’s Meri Dulari (2013) and Hum TV’s Ullu Baraye Farokht Nahi (2013) received critical praise. Her portrayal in Ullu Baraye Farokht Nahi earned her a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the Hum Awards.

    Breakthrough and Recognition

Establishing Herself as a Leading Actress

Yumna Zaidi’s role as a troubled wife in the tragic romance Rishtay Kuch Adhooray Se (2013) was a breakthrough in her career. Her performance was highly acclaimed, earning her nominations for the Hum Award for Best Actress and Best Actress Popular. This role solidified her status as a leading actress in Pakistan’s television industry.

    Diverse Roles and Continued Success

Zaidi continued to take on diverse roles, which showcased her versatility as an actress. In 2014, she appeared in Mausam and Madawa, followed by Guzaarish, Jugnoo, Kaanch Ki Guriya, Paras, and Aap ki Kaneez in 2015. These roles earned her several Best Actress nominations and further established her reputation.

    Major Works and Accolades

    Critical Acclaim

In 2016, Yumna Zaidi played the lead role of Uzma Ikhtiar in Momina Duraid’s Zara Yaad Kar, opposite Zahid Ahmed and Sana Javed. She continued to gain popularity with her role in Hum TV’s Yeh Raha Dil (2017), where she portrayed Hayat, a young woman who faced numerous personal challenges. Her chemistry with co-star Ahmed Ali was praised, earning them a nomination for Best On-Screen Couple at the Hum Awards.

    Tackling Social Issues

Zaidi took on more challenging roles, such as Sila in Dar Si Jaati Hai Sila (2017), a drama dealing with sexual harassment. Her performance received significant praise for its authenticity and depth. Critics, including those from The News International, lauded her ability to handle a tough subject with fewer dialogues, making her performance believable and impactful.

    Continued Excellence

From 2018 to 2019, Yumna Zaidi appeared in Pukaar, Dil Kiya Karey, and the social drama Inkaar. Her portrayal of Hajra in Inkaar, opposite Imran Ashraf and Sami Khan, was particularly well-received. She also made special appearances in Choti Choti Batain and had an extended cameo in Ishq Zahe Naseeb. In the telefilm Shaadi Impossible, she played the character of Raina, further showcasing her versatility.

    Film Debut and Other Endeavors

    Venturing into Films

In 2024, Yumna Zaidi made her film debut with the titular role of an aspiring cricketer in Umair Nasir Ali’s Nayab. Despite the film’s overall lack of impact and becoming a box-office bomb, Zaidi’s attempt to transition to the big screen demonstrated her willingness to explore new territories in her acting career.

    Advocacy and Public Appearances

Zaidi has also been an advocate for social causes. In 2016, when the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority issued a show-cause notice to the drama Udaari, she spoke out in support of the series, emphasizing its role in raising awareness about social issues. She stated, “It is based on a social cause, and we should create awareness in our society through such drama serials.”

    Fashion and Media Presence

Beyond acting, Yumna Zaidi has also made her mark in the fashion industry. She walked the ramp for designer Aisha Farid’s collection “Crystalline” at Hum TV’s Bridal Couture Week. Additionally, she appeared on the celebrity comedy talk show Mazaaq Raat in 2017, further increasing her visibility and popularity among fans.

    Recent Work and Ongoing Success

    Recent Television Projects

Yumna Zaidi continues to impress with her performances in recent television series. Notably, her roles in Dar Si Jaati Hai Sila (2017), Inkaar (2019), Pyar Ke Sadqay (2020), Dil Na Umeed To Nahi (2021), and Bakhtawar (2022) have earned her critical acclaim and several Lux Style Awards for Best Television Actress.
