The Karachi police have initiated a special investigation into a Karsaz Accident Case Special Investigation Team Formed to Probe that took place on August 19 near the Karsaz area. This accident involved a female driver who has been accused of killing 60-year-old Imran Arif and his daughter, Amna Arif. In response to this incident, the authorities have registered a case against the woman and are actively investigating the matter.
Investigation Process and Evidence Collection
The investigation team has already gathered and is closely examining all available CCTV footage from the scene. These recordings are expected to provide crucial evidence that will help in determining the events leading up to the accident. Additionally, the police are awaiting the results of a blood test conducted on the female driver, which is expected to arrive within the next 24 hours. The results of this test could lead to the addition of more charges against the suspect, depending on what the medical reports reveal.
Changing Statements and Vehicle Details
Karsaz Accident
One of the challenges the investigators are facing is the inconsistent statements made by the suspect. According to the police, the woman has been changing her account of the events. It has been confirmed that the suspect was driving from her home in DHA Scheme-I to her in-laws’ house, a short distance of about 3-4 kilometers, when the accident occurred. The vehicle involved in the incident is registered under the name of a private company, further complicating the investigation.
Legal Implications and Potential Punishments
As the investigation progresses, new legal charges have been added to the case, including Section 322 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which deals with Qatal-bis-Sabab (murder without intention). This section carries a punishment that can range from 10 to 18 years in prison. Furthermore, this law allows for the possibility of a settlement, known as “diyat” or blood money. The victim’s family may choose to accept compensation, which is equivalent to 30,360 grams of silver, valued at approximately Rs 6.8 million. If the family agrees to this settlement, the case could potentially be closed.
Continued Investigation and Police Assurance
The police are continuing their efforts to gather more evidence in Karsaz Accident, including additional CCTV footage, to ensure a thorough investigation. On Friday, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of East Karachi, DIG Mahesar, encouraged anyone who was injured or had their property damaged in the accident to come forward and provide their statements to the police. The DIG assured the public that justice will be served for the deceased father and daughter.
DIG Mahesar also visited the victims’ residence in Gulzar-i-Hijri, Scheme-33, where he offered condolences to the grieving family. He promised them full legal support and emphasized that the police would ensure fairness at every stage of the investigation.
Current Status of the Suspect
In Karsaz Accident, the female driver is in judicial custody. The Karachi East court ordered her production in court and requested a medical report concerning her condition. The court’s decision to place her in custody highlights the seriousness with which this case is being treated.
This ongoing investigation serves as a reminder of the importance of due process and the commitment of the Karachi police to deliver justice in the aftermath of this tragic incident.
